Wangsaithong - The Only Limestone Waterfall in Satun, South of Thailand

By Ianpassion

Have you ever visited a limestone waterfall?

The Wangsaithong Waterfall is the only limestone waterfall situated in the forested district of Langu, Satun, South of Thailand. It is about two hours drive from the main city of the South of Thailand - Hatyai, and more than an hour from the central town of Satun Province.

You are going to notice that you are about to arrive at the said waterfall when you pass the Wangsaithong school and the Wangsaithong temple. If in case you still cannot locate this waterfall, do not hesitate to ask for help from the Thai locals. They are friendly and much willing to help.

You know that you are at the right place when you start hearing the soothing sound of the river streams and birds singing on trees like an orchestra of nature. It is utterly fantastic.

The pavement made from bricks serves as a pathway and will be your route heading to the frontage view of the waterfall.

As you go on hiking, you will be amused by these centuries-old tall trees canopying and various sizes of Tarzan vines rolling up its trunks and branches like brown anacondas.

When you finally reach the Wangsaithong waterfall, you will be amazed at how this waterfall is made of.

First, you will notice the waters flowing down from the top going over each limestone stairs and roots of the trees. What sets this waterfall unique is its carbonite rocks.  Our feet grip well on these. So even though they are wet, we or our children can still walk or climb on them safely.

Another interesting thing you can do on this waterfall is to bath under every cascading flow of its refreshing waters. The pool of waterfall is wide and deep enough for swimming and for the splashing of waters. There is no greater feeling to rejuvenate your body and mind in a cold waterfall like this after some hours exposed to hot weather.

One more amazing thing about this waterfall is the water source. Out of curiosity, I climbed its peak until I reached the main water source. Tucked behind trees and rocks, waters overflow endlessly from the borehole of a cave, which serves as a reservoir. I sat on a flat rock in front and stayed for several minutes staring at the nonstop flow of the waters while reflecting "The Streams of Living Water".

I remembered that I spent my family time here in the year 2015. At the time my first child was still two years old and my second was still 5 months of age in the womb. I spread our picnic mat, sat, and dined. Our background was the Wangsaithong waterfall, pounding and the fizzing sound of its waters felt like a serenade of nature.
