Vietnam is one of the countries in Southeast Asia that is very rich in history. Even just in a short period of time, I got to know more about this country when we were there with my family in October 2018.
What I learned from my history books back in my school days became more imaginative when we finally visted those places that brought us back to the horrible Vietnam war (1955-1975).
Saigon City, now known as Ho Chin Minh City, was the last holding ground of Southern Vietnamese and America against the advancing communists Viet Cong soldiers from North Vietnam. On April 30, 1975, eventually, the city collapsed when assailed by 250,000 soldiers of Ho Chin Minh, the president of the Noth Vietnam (see his picture below on the wall of the central post office).
We walked around the city visiting historical places. One of those was the Reunification Palace. At one of the corners inside the building exhibited pictures of victims suffered after Agent Orange was dropped in the community (If you don't know this chemical click here). It looks horrible.
The next building was the War Museum, where we were able to see different military equipment, weapons, vehicles, planes, and even different sizes of bombshells. It also has a collection of pictures of civilians suffered from bomb explosions.
I can't imagine if I am one of those running for my life. Nights I can't sleep because it might be my last sleep. Or maybe I am helpless because I am one of the victims and my loved ones pass away right in front of me.
The aftermath of Vietnam War is really horrible. We came to realize even more that should be grateful for our every single day. We are in a community that is peaceful.
