I was thinking about Isaiah 43:18-19 as the year 2022 came to an end. In this verse, Isaiah tells the people of the heavenly Father who have been captive in Babylon for many years to forget the former things and not to dwell on the past, because He is about to do something new. He is going to build a new road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
We can imagine that captives are not well treated. They do not have the same rights as the citizens of the country that holds them captive. They are destitute. They do not have their own homes and are most likely incarcerated in labor camps. I'm sure they were thinking, "We can no longer be free and have a chance to live an abundant life. We are stuck here with no way out."
However, Abba is saying that they should forget the past and not dwell on it because He will create new things. Given their circumstances, "new things" appear to be improbable. But Abba is saying that if they keep dwelling on the past, he won't be able to create new things. They will miss their destiny if they continue to focus on what was unjust and hurtful to them. Living with regrets will keep them from taking advantage of new opportunities. They must shift their focus and let go of everything that is holding them back in order to completely trust The Father's plan for a new beginning.
I like this quote:
"Never be a prisoner of your past.
It was a lesson,
not a life sentence."

Abba has also stated that He will build roads and rivers in the desert. Roads and rivers in the desert? Is it really possible? Desert speaks of suffering, despair, and death. How can you survive in the desert if you don't have land to transport goods and services and a source of water? Our bodies can only survive for one week without food or water. But, what Abba is saying is that He will give them new life. The old way is gone. They are no longer manipulated. He is launching a new era of equality, liberty, and abundance.
To experience what the Father has prepared for us. We must concentrate on the future. We will never see the new if we continue to look back at the old. When I drive a car, I have a large windshield and a small rearview mirror in front of me. The rearview mirror is smaller than the windshield because what is behind me is less important than what is ahead of me, especially when the car is running. Where I am going is more important than where I have been.
May the year 2023 bring you lots of love, health, and family. Happy New Year!
