Thank Almighty Father for His protection. We thank Almighty Father that in our area in Satun, Thailand, we barely felt the impact of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Thailand and the 8.6 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. When the earthquake occurred, we were busy constructing the hut for fellowship and family gatherings behind our home. I only noticed the news of the earthquake when I went to the construction shop, and the owner asked if I knew about it. I didn’t know anything about it.
When I arrived home, I checked the news on my phone, and that’s when we learned that it was a very unusual earthquake. Thailand and Myanmar, especially in places like Bangkok and Mandalay, are not prepared for such an event, as most buildings in these regions are not built on bearing pads. You can tell from how the buildings shake that their bases are not isolated, which resulted in the collapse of some buildings and cracks in the walls and foundations.
This morning, I was thinking about how life can be so normal, and then suddenly everything can change, like what happened in Bangkok and Mandalay with the earthquake. We could be running for our lives in an instant. If you are at home right now, in a place that is safe and peaceful, where you can sleep well at night—even if you don’t have the comfort of the rich—if you have food to eat and don’t need to beg for it, if you have clean water to drink and fresh water to shower, if you are healthy even if you don’t have a lot of money in the bank, and if you’re not paying for the air you breathe—YOU ARE BLESSED, and you need to be grateful every day for this life.
The Son said, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” (Matthew 8:20). The Son gave up His comfort in Heaven, became human, subject to rejection and suffering, and eventually died for us so that we can live a better life, be forgiven, and be renewed. And when our time here on earth is over, an eternal home awaits us. This earth is not our home; our true home is in Heaven.
